Jeep and trailer sold last week.
As soon as I buy another vehicle, I will advertise the truck, so let me know soon if you're interested. I'm asking $26K, and can be flexible. |

Ok, here are the details:
Jeep - 1980 CJ-7 Body Was rusty, beefed up with homemade flat fenders, diamond plate sides and rear corners. Trail dents galore. Decent full cage, nothing fancy, but strong enough (roll tested). Decent newer bucket seats with no tears. Good back seat. Large ammo can console. No stereo or power anything. No chrome. Tractor headlights. Flush mount tail lights. GM truck heater fan (heat works). Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges. Aftermarket tach doesn’t work right. Factory gauges do not work. Door and windshield hinges are mangled by wheelin’. Tailgate works. Note: I have a rust-free YJ tub with nice full cage, half doors, windshield, rock sliders, tube fenders, grill tubing and tilt wheel available. Nice Bestop soft top too. Frame Could use some beefing in spots. Not rusty, but I have been chasing cracks with the welder. This things flexes so much, it stresses the frame. Engine Chevy TBI 350 from an ’89 Burb. I bought it from a friend who hit a deer and his insurance totaled the truck. Just before the wreck, he had done a valve job, Comp cam, lifters, timing chain and water pump. Only thing hurt in the wreck was the distributor, which I replaced. I pulled everything including the computer and harness and transplanted it. This was the fourth TBI swap I had done, and it runs great. This is a full serpentine motor. The 100 amp alternator is two or three years old. Optima Yellow Top battery. Stock engine other than the torque/towing cam. Frame-mounted fuel pump. Stock fuel tank, fills from top of wheelwell. Dual 2-1/2” exhaust with SuperTrapp mufflers. Sounds good, not loud. Aluminum radiator. Runs 190 degrees chugging down the trail on a hot day. Does not smoke. Trans SM420 from a ’64 C30. The truck was my neighbor’s and had 43,000 miles. This trans works perfectly – no popping out of gear or noises. Between the engine and trans are a full steel bellhousing and block saver, Hayes 12 inch clutch and GM hydraulic clutch system. Have spare trannies. Transfer Case Jeep Dana 300 short version with adapter. Recently replaced. Custom tubing crossmember. Driveshafts 1350’s in rear 1350 in front at pinion, 1330 at the case, no room for 1350 next to the SM420. Front shaft and joints are new with three days of wheelin’. 3/8” wall tube. Front Axle Dana 60 from late ‘70’s GM truck. Shortened 4 inches to match rear. Moser shortened shaft. Detroit Locker. 4.56 ratio. All 35 spline shafts with re-splined GM drive flanges. Disc brakes. Grease zerks in hubs to totally fill them with grease and keep water out. Thick diff cover. Rear Axle Eaton (GM) HO72 from Cab and Chassis Dually. Like a very beefy version of a Furd 9 inch. Detroit Locker. 4.57 ratio. 14 bolt FF axle shafts and spiders. GM disc brakes. Have complete spare axle. Front Suspension YJ leaves on custom mounts. BDS 2” lift with full military wrap (only two days wheelin’ on these new springs and bushings). Shackle reversal. Junk shocks. Rear Suspension Buick coils (really does ride like a Buick). Custom 3-link by Neil Trudeau with greaseable wishbone upper link. Newer lower links are solid bar with Rubicon Express large Super-flex joints. Junk shocks. Amazing droop. Steering Full hydraulic high steer. Stock GM pump with modified valve. Fluid cooler and filter. TRW orbital valve, IH combine cylinder with recent rod ends. Badlands Machine Shop built the tie rod from solid bar and big rod ends. I’d be impressed if you could bend it. Steers like a Buick too (one finger ease). Some hoses and fittings recently replaced. Spare hose and field replaceable fittings. Tires 38.5 x 14.5 x 15 Super Swamper TSL SX. Good tread. Typical rock rash and trail scars. No road miles. See pics. Matching spare tire and wheel included. Wheels 15 x 8 (9 meow) steel spokes with Marsh (MRT) weld-on bead locks. Winch Older Warn 8274 with newer cable, solenoid, solenoid cover, plug, control and cable. Roller fairlead. Warn truck bumper cut down to fit Jeep frame. On Board Air GM A/C compressor converted for air. Has tank, pressure switch, gauge, regulator and oiling point. ECM bumps up idle when compressor is energized. Hose coiled under seat for easy access. Summary This Jeep is very capable, but not pretty and not perfect. It could use some welding and patching of a couple spots on the frame to stop the cracking. You might want to replace the shocks, they weren’t high on my list. It works well in the woods, rocks and mud. The belly is high and tight. Crawl ratio is 84:1, and I haven’t felt like I needed anything lower. 2nd low side works best for most technical stuff. The axle width is a great balance between stock Jeep and full size width. Getting through tight woods trails is easy, but it is still very stable on sidehills. It’s hard to roll, but not impossible. There are a lot of good parts here that would cost a ton to put together yourself. Most everything has been replaced or rebuilt in the last several years. The Badlands is close for me, so I go there often. It handles everything in the main park easily. It has been through Mission Impossible (Troy’s Trail) quite a few times. This is where most of the body damage was done. When Troy first got that land, we helped with trails and installing pull points in the rock faces. It has also been to several other parks in the Midwest and South. Price $4500 complete as listed above. YJ body extra. Trailer 30 foot lowboy gooseneck. Built 4-5 years ago for me by Neil Trudeau. 83” between the fenders. Fenders are diamond plate and could be driven on if necessary, but Jeep fits between. Two 7,000 lb. torque-flex axles with brakes on both. Breakaway system. Ramp storage in rear. Good wood deck. Tie downs all along sides. Two drop-leg jacks. Tool box. Hauls two Jeeps with room to spare for parts and tools. Good matching tires and wheels (8 lug). All flush mount lights. 7-pin plug on removable cable. Everything functional and ready to go. Price $3000. Truck 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD Crew cab short bed 4WD, Duramax diesel, Allison trans. Only 53,000 miles, engine always left stock, well maintained. Very nice condition, no body or other damage, kept inside, extended warranty, most all the options. Stainless step bars, spray-in liner, B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch, tonneau. Price $26,000. My Jeep (front one) was leaning weird in this pic because I went home with broken springs that weekend. This was taken before leaving Rockport last summer. ![]() |
